Asia-Pacific Cosmetic Creative Contest 2014
I. Background
Why consumers are so crazy about Apple’s products? As Steve Jobs has put it, design is not about the appearance of a product, but rather, its essence, and the core soul of an artificial work that is reflected by its shell.
Every consumer is experiencing, participating or creating a grand era of creative design. Our life style resonates with inspirations of creative design, and each and every brand we use is quietly yet unavoidably driven by creative design.
As a matter of fact, during the rapid economic growth of Japan and Korea in the previous century, creative design changed or even rebuilt the development path for industry and brands, directly promoted industry and brand upgrade, and brand internationalization.
All of this provides new possibilities for Chinese brands, especially cosmetic brands to open up new paths. Cosmetic brands are faced with such new topics as ways to upgrade the level of creative design for the industry, to break through traditional enterprise development mode and to improve brands added value.
At China Cosmetic Summit 2013, themed on Industry Upgrade and Brand Dream, the question of how to align creative design to serving brand upgrade and equip the brand dreams with wings has become the focus of enterprises. China’s cosmetic industry is embracing an important stage where brand upgrade is supported with creative design.
It has also been recognized by the state as a fact that we need to leverage creative design to promote economic upgrade and realize the transformation from “Made in China” to “Created in China”. On January 22, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang made important remarks on the fusion and development of cultural and creative industry, design services and relevant industries, and he emphasized the irreplaceable role of creative design in the fusion and development, transformation and upgrade of the industry. As creative design has been incorporated in to the genes of brands, or has even become their core soul, and then driven brand development, a new wave of creative design is making its ways towards us. Plus, the state’s support to cultural and creative industry means unlimited opportunities and possibilities for industry and brand upgrade.
With the state’s support to creative design industry, and driven by market demand and media responsibility, China Cosmetic Summit, Hong Kong Design Center, Pinguan Media and Asia-Pacific Cosmetic Brand Incubation & Creation Organization are jointly putting together the first session of Asia-Pacific Cosmetic Creative Contest.
The Contest is themed on “Change & Beautiful”, and its objective is to identify and award excellent designers and design works, to facilitate communication and co-operation between outstanding design agencies, designers and domestic and overseas cosmetic brands, to broaden the thinking and horizon of in creative cosmetic design for enterprises, design agencies and designers, to capture the most up-to-date pulse of international creative design and take China’s market demand into account as create more great products complying to brand tones, and above all, to promote upgrade of cosmetic industry in China through fusion of creative design and industry.
II. About Cosmetic Creative Contest
Jointly organized by Hong Kong Design Center, China Cosmetic Summit, Pinguan Media, Asia-Pacific Cosmetic Brand Incubation and Creation Organization, the Contest aims at promoting industry upgrade of the cosmetics industry in China through the convergence between creative design and industry, and injecting international vigor into cosmetic brands.
As an annual event, Asia-Pacific Cosmetic Creative Contest 2014 (hereinafter referred to as the Contest) will shape up the most authoritative award in cosmetics, namely C TYPE AWARDS, with most convincing international judging panel and international appraisal standards.
With entries covering 5 Categories: VI image design, creative billboards, package design, interactive video and space design, the Contest will present front line, diversified, transnational and cross-boundary design concepts. The Contest calls for excellent works from domestic and overseas cosmetic enterprises, professional design agencies, independent studios, freelance designers, teachers and designers with a passion for design.
The Contest will follow international standards and build itself into a top event in the Asia-Pacific region by employing the most authoritative judging panel, selecting the best entries and working together to build the most valuable creative resources for the industry.

IV. Prize Arrangements
For Each of the 5 Categories: VI Image Design, Creative Billboards, Package Design, Interactive Video and Space Design, the following awards will be given:

3. One winner of C TYPE Silver Award
4. C TYPE Judge Award: to reward entries with special contribution
5. Several winners of C TYPE Best Original Idea Award
6. Several winners of C TYPE Best Modelling Award
7. Several winners of C TYPE Best Original Photograph
8. C TYPE Award: for listed entries
Notes:
1) A certificate, together with a portfolio of the Contest will be presented to designers listed in C TYPE
2) If the winner is a brand of an enterprise, the award will be given to the brand and the chief designer respectively to enhance the chief designer’s sense of honor.
V. Eligibility
The Contest is open to brands from domestic and overseas cosmetics enterprises, professional design agencies, independent studios, teachers and designers who have a passion for design.
The entries submitted should be cases dated on or after January 1, 2011, and may cover various aspects, such as skincare, makeup, fragrances, hair styling and body contouring.
VI. Content of Solicitation
Category A: VI Image Design
VI image design, logo figure design, brand name font design, etc;
Category B: Creative Billboards
Person image, product image, ect.
Category C: Package Design
Bottle packaging, flower box packaging, and conceptual packaging designs; (Visualization drawings or originals should be submitted.)
Category D: Interactive Video
Brand image video, product video, micro-film, etc. (in MP4 format, size limit 30M);
Category E: Space Design
Monolithic commercial space, exclusive stores, terminal counter design, etc. (submitted in 2-5 PPT slides)
Submittal of Entries
1-5 entries (a series will be regarded as one entry) by an individual. In the case of teamwork, you must be the chief creator. Entries will be categorized by content. (Note: Designer CV and photo should be provided.)
Remarks: No entry fee is needed.
Entry Requirements:
Contestants should first submit their entries in electronic version. The Organizing Committee will issue a separate notice for qualified entries so that the originals can be sent to participate in the exhibition.
1. Electronic Files: an electronic file of the entry should be sent by e-mail or postal service if it’s in a CD. The size should be about A4, with a pixel of 300 dpi, and file format should be CMYK mode for JPG;
2. Requirements for Electronic Files for Graphic Design: About A4 size, 300dpi, CMYK mode and saved in JPEG;
3. Files for playing in a multimedia entry should not exceed 30 MB (an electronic file containing a maximum of 8 sub-lens screenshots should be submitted for each entry);
4. Space Design (an electronic file containing a maximum of 8 main screenshots should be submitted for each entry);
5. Originals: Physical product or visualization drawings should be submitted for entries in package design.

VII. Treatment of Submitted Information & Copy Right
1. None of the entries or relevant information sent to the Organizing Committee will be returned for any reason.
2. Entries must be created by the Contestant himself/herself (or his/her team). In case of plagiarized ideas or concepts, or if the entry is found to be in IPR or copyright disputes, the contestant will be disqualified by the Organizing Committee and held responsible for all the consequences. The Judging Panel enjoys the ultimate right of judgement of the Entries. The Organizing Committee shall have the right to reject any entry failing the Requirements, or any entry that encroaches the culture, national dignity or morals of any country; and the right to exhibit, publish, publicize and collect all the entries.
